Description

There has been a significant increase in discussions about ethics in the dog training industry, although much of it is conflicting and confusing. This webinar is a blend of theory and application on what ethics is, what it isn’t, and what makes dog training “ethical.” Participants will learn to distinguish ethics from other areas of study, how ethical principles can guide evolving practices in dog training, and how to understand and approach values tensions. Reflections, comments, and questions are encouraged! Learning Objectives Introduction to the academic study of ethics – distinction between colloquial use of the word ethics vs. ethics as an area of study Explanation of what ethics is and isn’t – brief introduction to subcategories of metaethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics. Explanation of the difference between ethics, law, politics, and the fact/value distinction. Overview of guiding principles of ethical dog training – introduction of fundamental mid-level guiding principles and underlying normative theory
